If the outside frame is still in good shape, I can often re-screen it for $25 (new mesh + spline + hardware as needed). If the frame is bent/damaged beyond reuse, the best option is a new screen.
We use Solar Screen that blocks 75%–85% of the sun’s heat because it offers the best overall performance — not just heat reduction.
There are products on the market advertise 80%–90% heat blocking, but do not stop insects. Since our screens are meant to reduce heat and keep bugs out, we choose a material that does both reliably.
In real-world use, the small difference in heat reduction (about 5%) is hardly noticeable — but the difference between a screen that stops insects and one that doesn’t definitely is.
